As the Arctic changes, maritime activity must be carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner to prevent or mitigate any negative social and ecological consequences. Arctic States intend the Best Practice Information Forum to meet annually under PAME's auspice, with the oversight and guidance of the Co-Chairs of PAME´s Shipping Expert Group, and be chaired by a representative from the Arctic Council Chairmanship.
