The objective of this report is to explore the need for, and as appropriate make recommendations regarding, internationally designated areas in the high seas area of the Arctic Ocean that warrant protection from the risks posed by international shipping activities. Present and future shipping activities are presented and combined with findings of the vulnerability of the area to assess the need for protection. The available IMO measures to protect the area are described and assessed with regard to their applicability. A proposal for targeted protection of the area is presented.en_US
